The Summer of Isaac starts now!

Our first topic of discussion is an exciting one! As of TODAY, February 2nd, two new Youtooz figures featuring Baphomet and Guppy are available for preorder, each of which includes a unique exclusive alt art promo card (Devil Deal and Guppy, respectively)! Kickstarter excess stocks are being sold again while supplies last and as a bonus, a free promo card, Mom’s Charmed Heart, is included with ANY order from the site. As 2024 rushes forward with cards and updates, we want to give a little recap on Four Souls in the last year. 2023 was MASSIVE for The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls.

Cuddle up to your favorite friend (or your Baby Plum plush, as the case may be), because love is in the air. Lust would call it love, anyway. Isaac might have a different opinion… Valentine’s Day 2023 saw the release of Live, Laugh, Lust, the 10th Four Souls Challenge, where you must guide your characters to victory while fighting off the love-stricken monsters pursuing you, before taking down Lust herself. Check it out here!

Keep away from the exploding fissures. The ground splits and shakes as feet crash down all around: Daddy Long Legs is on a rampage! 2023 also saw the release of Stomping Ground, the 11th Four Souls Challenge, where Isaac will need to dodge the many falling limbs while praying that the other basement dwellers can serve as a distraction. Check out this new challenge here!

The Unboxing of Isaac, the subscription extravaganza beginning June 2022, continued through May 2023. As a gift for the folks who supported the entire promotion for 12 months, the end of this year-long party introduced us to the first officially PHYSICALLY released Four Souls Challenge cards (print them yourself here) with Day of the Doodler, where you must defeat a two-dimensional menace as the only way to save yourself from being stuck as a sketch forever… We also got the first Four Souls cards with art by the game’s creator, Edmund McMillen himself, in the form of 3 alternate character cards (Isaac, Cain, and The Lost) featuring art from the original demo sketches of the game. Cool! The Unboxing of Isaac in 2023 brought us 24 MORE new cards (in addition to the 29 cards released through the subscription in 2022).

One of the biggest Four Souls news items in 2023 was of course the release of the Requiem expansion and all the Kickstarter goodies that came along with it. We got the Warp Zone and Alt Arts expansions, Ultra Pride and Corrupted Data as pre-commit cards, a Birthday Cake card to celebrate 10 YEARS of The Binding of Isaac, and a bonus Henry monster card that’s a little shy behind the effect box, bringing the total to a WHOPPING 435 new cards simultaneously shipped to thousands of folks’ homes.

Lost Soul promo cards were handed out all over the world at Maestro Media’s convention booths! We made appearances at UK Games Expo, Essen, and Gen Con where we showed off new games like Smurfs’ Hidden Village, Hello Kitty: Day at the Park, Sally Face: Strange Nightmares, Streamer Showdown, and more!

Enjoying his spot as one of the fans’ favorite recurring artists, Sony_Shock *shocked* us all with his INSANE Famine promo, totally altering our conceptions of what a Four Souls card can even look like!

Video games just feel better in a cardboard box on your shelf. When it comes to Edmund McMillen’s twisted Isaac prequel, The Legend of Bum-bo, a cardboard box makes even more sense! Nicalis released a physical edition in August and with this release came exclusive Bum-bo and Bag-o-Trash alt art cards!

Eventually, Isaac was going to need a little caffeine pick-me-up. For their second Isaac-themed flavor (after 2022’s Isaac’s Tears), G Fuel concocted the most devilish energy drink this side of Gehenna with BRIMSTONE… and with it, 2 new alt art promo cards in the form of G Fuel and Brimstone to make it taste all the sweeter.

Last, but certainly not least, 2023 brought us the most elusive, rare Four Souls card that perhaps we’ll ever see. The 2nd version of Henry, this time rising high to the occasion, was given away to members of the Four Souls community who have shown exceptional dedication in some way, hand-picked by Edmund McMillen himself! If you got your hands on one, then you’ve certainly done SOMETHING to earn the sincere thanks of all of us here at Maestro! Be careful you don’t lose him, he can be slippery!

One more year and we have a total of 466 new cards to play with in The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls. That’s more cards than the game’s LAUNCH year of 2018! Five years strong and we’re not stopping any time soon!

New to FourSouls.com are card errata! A handful of cards have received official (small) ruling fixes since the game’s last printing and these will be reflected by the cards’ listings on our website. If you want to learn more about errata, check out this section in the rules!

As a reminder, there are still two months left to enter your Unboxing of Isaac videos for a chance to win some exclusive swag. For those interested in getting the annual subscription, you’ll have at least through February, with a specific date to be determined soon. To celebrate a full year of The Unboxing of Isaac, Edmund will be hosting an epic livestream where he opens each month’s box, ending with the exclusive 13th box designed by him!

For Requiem Kickstarter backers, you still have time to make changes to your address; just log in to Backerkit using the same email that you backed the campaign with. If you need to update your shipping country, instead contact Maestro Media and they’d be happy to get things sorted for you. There will be a hard cutoff date for address changes as the fulfillment date approaches, so make sure to reach out as soon as possible if necessary. Boxes are getting ready to begin their journey via freight, which means we are getting closer every day to having the game in hand! It’s been a while since we last posted here, and with a lot more attention on the site, we thought it’d be a good idea to update everyone on all things Four Souls related.

UK Games Expo

First off, we’ve got a small section at the UK Games Expo! Come to Hall 1, we’re with Asmodee UK at their Dedicated Gamers stand, at 1-1092 on the corner of Mythic Avenue and Budd End. We’ll have demos of Four Souls: Requiem to play! People who come will also have a chance of getting a very special promo card, but you may need to work for it once you get there. Something about holes and heads. We look forward to seeing you! It is open from Friday the 3rd of June, to Sunday the 5th of June. Please note we will not be selling copies of the game at the Expo.

We will also be networking at booth 1-975, where we hope to meet artists, designers and future partners. Be sure to get in touch, we’d love to meet you!

The Unboxing of Isaac

We’re now at Month 3 (July) of The Unboxing of Isaac! This month’s theme is “Summertime Fun!”, and features an amazing Four Horsemen shirt, and 3 Cubes of Meat cards! It will also include the Short Fuse card, in celebration of the 4th of July!

These can only be obtained through July’s box. You can buy the box over at Maestro Media’s Store. You can choose to buy just July’s box, or subscribe for future boxes as well. For a limited time, you are still able to buy the annual subscription, which packages all boxes, past, present and future, into a single box which will be delivered on May 2023 with dramatically reduced shipping costs. But that option won’t be there forever, so be sure to grab it if you want every shirt and card released so far for The Unboxing of Isaac!

Challenges

We’ve also been busy devising challenge cards for you to try out! Challenges are print-and-play cards you can make at home which drastically alter the game. You can play them at three difficulties, Normal, Hard and Ultra Hard. We’ve just released Motherly Love, but more challenges are on the way! To view the rules, head to the Maestro Media website, and scroll down to News. There you will find posts, PDFs and instructions for both released challenges so far!

Kickstarter Fulfilment

There isn’t a lot of news on the shipping front. Between all the translations, lockdowns and sanctions, we have had to push back delivery. We believe the games will begin shipping in October/November.

Wow, what a momentous day. Today the mission of the Four Souls Card Repository truly begins. This will soon become the most complete repository of all things Binding of Isaac: Four Souls on the planet, rivaling Edmund’s own collection! Our hope is that you’ll use this site as a place to reference cards, look up rules and FAQs, and build your own customized decks to play the game how you want with the ratios you want. There’s a lot already here and there’s more coming, including those beautiful Requiem cards!

The uploading of high quality cards to the site is a time consuming process so the small team handling this will be uploading batches of cards over the next week or so. If you’re part of the Kickstarter or pre-order, you’ll be notified with an update when the new batches have arrived. Please show your love for Kizzycocoa, Yuggy, and egghorse for all of their hard work getting the site and the cards up for everyone to enjoy.

If you’re an archivist, we ask that you not download the cards from the site and please do not link various bots (jerbot, TableTop Simulator tables) as a way to keep the site running smoothly for everybody. In a few days an Imgur Album with the exact same cards will exist for you to do all of those things.

We’re thrilled you’re here! Use this time to go over the Second Edition & Requiem cards as they are uploaded. If you catch any spelling/grammatical errors or you want to tell us you think a card is over/under powered let us know your thoughts with the “Report a Mistake” feature on every card page. There is a tight turnaround to get these cards to the manufacturer and to the localization partners. The more feedback we get, the quicker we can take action.
